Shoei helmet saves the SoCal speedster, but injured wrist
prevents him from finishing the main event
/bigger>CARLSBAD, Calif., (March 21, 2005) – Showing
that re-found top ten speed in the 250cc class of the THQ/AMA Supercross
Series, Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Sean Hamblin had his sites set on
improving on his 10th/smaller> place finish at Daytona the previous
week.
Making the main with a second-place finish in his semi, a race that he actually
led for a bit, Hamblin was confident his lap times would again land him in the
top ten overall.
A good start, moving up to seventh, everything seemed to be in order, then
BAM!, he wads up the whoops and has his head run over by another racer.
“I was feeling a bit light headed at that point and felt it would be best to
pull off,” said Hamblin.
Once off the track, Hamblin’s wrist began to throb. And though the at-track
X-rays from the Asterisk Mobile Medical Unit proved to be negative, Hamblin has
made an appointment to see his physician this week for a second opinion.
“My wrist is really sore,” he said. “I’m going to take a couple days away from
my (motocross) bike and just train some cardio, ride my road bike,” said
Hamblin. “By Wednesday I should know if I can race or not this weekend.”
Hamblin’s wreck came in the whoops, an especially chewed-up area of the Orlando
track that took down a number of riders on Saturday.
“I got forced into a new line and tried to blitz through it, but it was just
too rough and I got thrown to the ground in an instant,” said Hamblin. “I was
just starting to move to get up when another bike ran over my head. Nothing I
could do. I’m just bummed because I was racing really well at Orlando.”
Hamblin and Team Monster Entergy Drink/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki return to action a
week from this Saturday (April 2nd/smaller>) at Texas Stadium in
Irving, Texas.
